Visit to America & Overseas
My Visit to South Africa in February was a great opportunity to see Hinduism being practiced on another continent. My trip included Visits to Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. I felt at home in South Africa because I saw a Hindu culture that reflects very much the practices of Hindus in Guyana and Trinidad. There is no doubt that Hinduism is alive however, there is great concern that the younger generation are drifting away from the traditional forms of activities such as Mandir worship and daily religious practices such as Pooja in the home. The reason for this is because there is very little understanding of the rituals and those who present the religion do not speak in a language that is understood by the younger generation.
I was very impressed by the process that they have adopted for the disposition of Cremation Ashes and I have brought the idea back to Canada. I am currently engaged in discussions with the Cities of Ajax, Pickering and the Conservation departments on how we can implement these methods in Canada.
Visit to Minneapolis
On May 15, 2015 I attended the 4th annual Hindu priest conference in Minneapolis Minnesota and also present one of the keynote lectures. This event was hosted by the Hindu Temple of Minnesota. The key take away from this event was that there is a great need to orient Hindu priests coming from India to North America in the basics of communication skills and the need to relate to the younger generation by explaining the rituals and being able to communicate in English.
